Miss Voila Designs - Jewelry Care

Miss Voila guarantees the quality handmade jewelry, but like any product; jewelry can be damaged and will not last long if proper care is not taken. Here is some information to help you care for your particular piece from Miss Voila Designs.

Please remember and make sure you apply your perfume and cosmetics on before putting your jewelry.

When you’re not wearing your jewelry, always store it in a place where it won't be bent or damaged, preferably in a dry place.

Most of the necklaces are made with a “tiger tail” strand wire which makes it very strong and is coated with plastic so as not to upset the most sensitive skin. Always make sure you do not bend the wire as the wire will develop a permanent bend. Either lay flat or curve the wire in a circular way for easy storage.

Silver fittings will tarnish over time. The oils from your body will help slow down the tarnishing process to some degree, but keeping your jewelry stored in an airtight plastic bag will also be helpful.

We advise you not to sleep or shower with your jewelry on, as you will damage it.To clean your jewelry, use a soft cloth rather than paper towels or tissue.

Always remove your rings and fine jewelry before using any product that contains bleach! Bleach can cause gold and other metal alloys to breakdown leaving the metal irreparably damaged. This includes swimming pools and bathing in hot tubs as chlorine products are added to prevent bacteria growth.

If you normally use specially purchased jeweler's cloths to keep your jewelry clean and shiny, be sure to use fresh cloths since the dirt and grit left on the cloth from a previous use will now leave scrapes and pits in the piece you are trying to clean and polish.

Never use toothpaste or other abrasives to clean metal or stones. You will find countless websites that recommend toothpaste as a cleaner, but this is not an accepted practice by fine jewelers. Although the abrasives in toothpaste are great for your teeth, they can damage the surface of the metal requiring the skill of a professional to buff and refinish. Toothpaste will also scuff the surface on amber, lapis, turquoise and other soft stones resulting in the fine polish which was produced by the skilled lapidary to be permanently marred.
